Securing young talent and skilled workers

Makerspace

Since 2022, the annual MakerSpace has been an integral part of the career guidance program offered by the state capital of Wiesbaden.

Makerspace of the Wiesbaden trades

As part of the MakerSpace pop-up format of Wiesbaden's skilled trades at the Luisenforum in Wiesbaden, the Wiesbaden Chamber of Skilled Crafts and the Wiesbaden-Rheingau-Taunus District Skilled Trades Association will be presenting various trades such as baking, construction, electrical engineering, paints and varnishes, tiling, hairdressing, automotive engineering, metal, interior design, sanitary facilities and carpentry at a variety of stations. Apprentices and journeymen from the respective guild will be available at the individual stations to answer questions and exchange ideas. Virtual reality goggles will also offer an authentic insight into other professions. Numerous information materials will be available to take away at information stands.

The Makerspace aims to raise awareness of the importance of the skilled trades and promote interest in vocational training in the skilled trades. The offer to get to know the diversity of the skilled trades, to try things out and to actively engage with one's own career choices is aimed not only at young people in career orientation, but also at the general public.

School classes have the opportunity to book an appointment in advance via the Chamber of Skilled Crafts website and are provided with information material to prepare for their visit so that they can explore the extensive range of activities on offer at the Makerspace on the day of their visit.

With 1,800 pupils and a further 500 visitors in 2024, the Makerspace has established itself and has now taken place for the third time in the Luisenforum.

The Department of Economic Affairs and Employment supports the Makerspace financially by covering the rental costs, thus making a contribution to career guidance in Wiesbaden.

The next Makerspace is planned for fall 2025.
