Securing young talent and skilled workers

Learning workshop

The Lernwerkstatt project gives pupils the opportunity to gain an early insight into professional fields in order to discover their talents and inclinations. The aim is to arouse interest in dual vocational training.

The project is currently being implemented at four schools in Wiesbaden - the Dichterviertel middle school, the Erich-Kästner-Schule, the Albrecht-Dürer-Schule and the Wilhelm-Leuschner-Schule.

Depending on the school, the offer is aimed at pupils in grades seven to ten. The learning workshops aim to teach basic manual skills and practical work experience. Close cooperation with training companies enables pupils to gain insights into and experience of the world of work. The aim is to arouse their interest in a skilled trade and make it easier for them to enter training.

The learning workshop takes place once a week for two hours. In addition to basic manual skills, the pupils learn key skills for working life such as teamwork, reliability and perseverance. The respective learning workshops work in small groups and offer practical learning settings. This provides pupils with an optimal learning atmosphere. The project participants are taught by skilled workers and master craftspeople or by teachers of the subject of work studies.

After successful participation in the learning workshop, all participants receive a certificate. Proof of an additional qualification has a positive effect on job applications. Participants are also supported by the Wiesbaden-Rheingau-Taunus District Craftsmen's Association in their search for an apprenticeship.

The Lernwerkstatt project is primarily financed and supported by the schools and the Department of Economics and Employment, as well as by an annual donation from the Rotary Club Wiesbaden to the Dichterviertel middle school.
