Wiesbaden reads in summer

Nine Wiesbaden bookshops are organizing their fourth joint reading festival from 8 May to 18 September with "Wiesbaden reads in summer". Special 2025: Reading takes place in the Historic Pentagon - as a contribution to the revitalization of Wiesbaden's city centre. The reading festival for everyone, in the heart of the city.

With 25 events, committed booksellers who have joined forces to form "Wiesbaden liest" will once again be inviting literature enthusiasts to talk about books this summer from May 8 to September 18. Founded in 2021, the reading festival has become a permanent fixture in the city's cultural calendar and continues to inspire readers of all ages. The cultural appeal extends to the entire region.

The Lesefest offers delightful encounters with authors, inspiring readings, lively discussions and a program that showcases the diversity of literature in all its facets: from evenings on local and German history to fiction, concerts with settings of works by Kurt Tucholsky, crime novels, books for young people, new discoveries and international bestselling authors.

In 2025, the focus will be on "Home, Identity, Home, Origin", topics that affect everyone in very different ways. The opening event of "Wiesbaden reads in summer" with bestselling author Anne Stern on May 8 in the town hall will be opened by Mayor Christiane Hinninger. The other events can be found in the PDF program.

From the very beginning, the concept of "Wiesbaden reads in summer" has also included reading with authors in unusual places and playing against expectations. "We want to literally open up new spaces: for the book, the live experience and for thinking," says Christina Baum, organizer of the reading festival of owner-managed independent bookshops from Wiesbaden.

In 2025, the stores, pubs, cultural facilities, institutions and public spaces where reading takes place will all be located in the so-called Historic Pentagon, the historic center of Wiesbaden:

"Wiesbaden liest" is a cooperative association of nine independent and owner-managed bookshops: Buch-Café Nero39 (Nerostraße), Büchergilde Wiesbaden (Bismarckring), Buchhandlung erLesen (Dichterviertel), Buchhandlung und Antiquariat Hans J. v. Goetz (Rheinstraße), Buchhandlung und Landkartenhaus Angermann (Mauergasse), Buchhandlung Vaternahm (An den Quellen), Buchecke (Schierstein), Buchhandlung spielen & LESEN (Dotzheim), Buch VorOrt (Bierstadt).

"With our offer and the reading festival "Wiesbaden reads in summer", we want to help ensure that Wiesbaden and its suburbs are lively and worth living in. As Wiesbadeners, city life and living together are important to us. The city centre is a special anchor and point of identity that people rub up against, but which they also can't and won't let go of," emphasizes Christina Baum on behalf of the participating bookshops.

'Wiesbaden reads in summer' 2025 is funded by the federal program'Sustainable inner cities and centers (opens in a new tab)', which supports and accompanies the transformation process of Wiesbaden's inner city. The reading festival is one of the many innovative measures aimed at revitalizing the heart of Wiesbaden and improving the quality of life, explains Mayor Christiane Hinninger.
