Designed electricity boxes beautify the city center
Historical motifs instead of graffiti: The city of Wiesbaden is setting a new example for cleanliness and attractiveness in the historic pentagon.
As part of a pilot project, electricity boxes are being covered with historical Wiesbaden motifs. The aim is to enhance the cityscape and at the same time reduce illegal stickers and graffiti.
"With the creatively designed electricity boxes, we are bringing a piece of Wiesbaden's history back into everyday life and at the same time raising awareness for a well-kept cityscape. This creates identification and improves the atmosphere," explains Mayor Christiane Hinninger.
The first phase of the project will start in the Bergkirchen district, where 16 electricity boxes will be designed with motifs such as Kochbrunnenplatz, the Russian Orthodox Church and the former Palasthotel. Following an evaluation, which will measure the reduction of graffiti and wild posters, among other things, the concept will be extended to other electricity boxes in the city center.
"We are very pleased about this initiative and are sure that the project will set an example," says Peter Lautz, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Wiesbaden Netz GmbH (sw netz). "We are now much better integrated into the cityscape with our important distribution boxes and expect a significant reduction in vandalism - and that in turn reduces our costs."
The project was initiated by the city management and is being implemented in cooperation with Stadtwerke Wiesbaden Netz GmbH and the waste disposal companies of the state capital of Wiesbaden. It is a further building block in increasing the quality of life in Wiesbaden's city centre and raising awareness of cleanliness.
