Reclaiming benefits under the Equalization of Burdens Act
Applications under the Equalization of Burdens Act are no longer possible.
All payments under the Equalization of Burdens Act (Lastenausgleichsgesetz - LAG) are subject to the statutory reservation of reclaim in the event of compensation for damages. If a loss is compensated in full or in part by the return of the seized property or by compensation or other compensation payments of any kind, the compensation under the Equalization of Burdens Act must be reclaimed.
The Federal Equalization Office in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe is now responsible for the reclaim procedure. At the time, the Equalization Office in Wiesbaden was responsible, among other things, for determining property damage in the former GDR and, after reunification, for reclaiming compensation. Since October 1, 1973, these tasks were also taken over for the Rheingau-Taunus district and from January 1, 2004 for the Main-Taunus district. Information on earlier determinations is only possible to a very limited extent today.
