Born: 08.04.1906 in Wiesbaden
died: 02.08.1987 in Frankfurt am Main
Schön started out as a teenager in the Wiesbaden Cycling Club 1907 and enjoyed great success in the 1920s, for example winning the Tour of Upper Silesia in 1926 and coming third in the German Mountain Championships. In 1930, he decided to turn professional. His greatest success, 10th place in the 1930 Tour de France, helped him to many engagements in the major six-day races in Frankfurt, Berlin and New York. As a professional cyclist (1930-43), Schön took part in 45 six-day races, winning eight of them, and also achieved further successes in road cycling. When six-day races were no longer held in National Socialist Germany, he rode stayer races and won the German stayer championship.
Schön ended his active career in 1947 and went on to organize numerous cycling events, including the "Rund um den Henninger-Turm" and the stage race for the "Golden Nassauer Löwen", the predecessor of the Hessen-Rundfahrt. He became the sporting director of the Frankfurt six-day race, which was held for the first time after the end of the war in 1951.
