Schmitz, Wilhelm Johann Anton Joseph Maria

After studying law and passing his second state examination in 1897, he was appointed assessor at the Montabaur district court. After holding various professional positions, he was appointed district judge in Saarbrücken in 1904 and moved to the Wiesbaden district court in 1909. There he was promoted to district court judge in 1912. During the First World War, he worked temporarily in the civil administration of the Governor General in Belgium. After the end of the war, he resumed his work at the Wiesbaden District Court.

In 1920, Schmitz, who at this time belonged to the Christian People's Party (another name for the Center Party), was elected to the Nassau Municipal Parliament for the Wiesbaden city district, and served as its chairman for a time. At the same time, he was active in various committees, such as the Audit Committee, the Committee of Elders and the Social Policy Committee. In 1932, he resigned from the Wiesbaden municipal parliament. Six months after the Nazis came to power, in July 1933, Schmitz retired at his own request.
