Schlaraffia Wiesbadensia e.V.
The men's association Schlaraffia was founded in Prague in 1859 by German-speaking writers, artists and theater people. The Schlaraffia Wiesbadensia has existed in Wiesbaden since 1882, and those who join this association are committed to art, friendship and humor. At the meetings ("Sippungen"), a chivalrous game is played according to fixed rules, at which the "Schlaraffen" give each other short lectures, recite poems, play instruments or sing together. Humor plays a major role.
There are currently (2015) 261 reychs worldwide - as the local associations such as the Reych Wiesbadensia are called - with over 10,000 members. The language spoken worldwide is German. In Wiesbaden, they meet weekly on Wednesdays from October to April in their meeting room at Kiedricher Straße 8, which is known as the "Burg" and is decorated accordingly.
