Salizé, Georg
Glazier, local politician
born: 10.01.1874 in Biebrich
died: 15.02.1959 in Wiesbaden
Georg Salizé was born in Biebrich on January 10, 1874. He completed an apprenticeship as a glazier and set off on a journey in 1891, which took him through Switzerland, Italy, Austria, later Yugoslavia and England. From 1892 to 1902, he worked in Bavaria, Riga, St. Petersburg and Samara, among other places. After a short stay in England, Salizé settled in Biebrich and passed his master craftsman's examination. He subsequently worked in his father's glazier business and took it over in 1904.
In his professional association of glaziers, Georg Salizé stood up for his colleagues as head master of the guild, became honorary head master and finally old master of the Hessian glazier trade.
The liberal politician was also a member of the Biebrich local council for many years and, from 1926 onwards, campaigned for housing construction and social issues in the Wiesbaden city council. In 1933, he had to give up all his offices after the National Socialists seized power. He was not called up for military service.
It was not until 1948 that Salizé was re-elected to the city council for the Liberal Democratic Party of Hesse (LDP), which merged with the FDP in the same year. Between 1950 and 1952, Salizé was a member of the Presidium and the Committee of Elders of the City Council. After retiring from the city parliament in 1952, Salizé was awarded the honorary title of "City Elder". Two years later, he also received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Wiesbadener Ehrenschale as an award. He died in Wiesbaden on February 10, 1959. Jahnstraße in Biebrich was renamed Salizéstraße in honor of Georg Salizé.
