Rhine-Main Halls

In 1956, the foundation stone for the Rhein-Main-Hallen was laid on a site on the corner of Friedrich-Ebert-Allee and Rheinstraße, where the Taunus, Ludwig and Rhein train stations had been located until the opening of Wiesbaden's main train station in 1906, and where tennis courts and soccer pitches had been located in the early 20th century. The halls were officially opened in April 1957.

In the following decades, the Rhein-Main-Hallen were the venue for the most important annual congress of the German Society for Internal Medicine for Wiesbaden and hosted the HAFA home economics exhibition for decades. The legendary TV show "Einer wird gewinnen" (One will win) with Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff was produced in the Rhein-Main-Hallen. The Rhein-Main-Hallen provided the setting for major events such as the "Ball des Sports", "Holiday on Ice" and the 2011 "Bambi" awards.

Over the decades, the Rhein-Main-Hallen have been constantly expanded and modernized. Most recently, a new main entrance and an additional congress hall above the entrance were opened in 2006. In the end, the trade fair and congress center operated by Rhein-Main-Hallen-GmbH had 13 congress and conference halls as well as exhibition space of over 20,000m2 on two levels. The largest hall for entertainment and evening events offered space for up to 2,600 people. An average of 400,000 visitors were counted annually.

Since its closure in June 2014, the Rhein-Main-Hallen have been torn down step by step. A new congress center is to be built by 2018.
