Born: 18.06.1933 in Kashan (Iran)
Died: 27.04.2010 in Wiesbaden
Peseschkian came to Germany in 1954 and studied medicine in Freiburg im Breisgau, Mainz and Frankfurt am Main. After gaining his doctorate in 1968, he worked as a specialist in neurology, psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy. From 1969 to 2000, he ran a practice with an associated psychotherapeutic day clinic in Wiesbaden. He founded Positive Psychotherapy (PPT) here in 1968.
He was the author of numerous specialist books, which have been translated into many languages. He regularly undertook lecture and seminar tours in Germany and abroad and was active in medical training in cooperation with the Hesse State Medical Association. PPT, a depth psychological psychotherapy method, is based on a humanistic view of man. This approach takes into account the inherent abilities of the individual and the family in addition to the disturbed areas. According to its original meaning (Latin "positum"), positive here means the actual, the given. PPT is aimed at patients from all social classes and cultures.
Peseschkian, an advocate of short-term therapy, broke new ground with this psychotherapeutic school. In Wiesbaden, he founded the International Academy for Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy (IAPP), the Prof. Peseschkian Foundation (2005), the Wiesbaden Academy for Psychotherapy (WIAP), the German Society for Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy (DGPP) and the World Association of Positive Psychotherapy (WAPP).
Peseschkian received numerous awards, including the Richard Merten Prize (1997), the Ernst von Bergmann Plaque of the German Medical Association (1998), the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon (2006) and the Encyclopaedia Iranica Prize (2006) from the Center for Iranian Studies at Columbia University New York.
His grave is located in the cemetery in Wiesbaden-Sonnenberg.
