Olfenius, August Christian
State bank director
born: 10.01.1822 in Weilburg
died: 23.05.1894 in Wiesbaden
Olfenius completed his studies in law and political science in 1843 with the first (Nassau) state examination, which qualified him for the higher Nassau administrative service. From 1844-46, he worked as an official assistant (assessor) in Braubach. He then moved to the court and court of appeal in Usingen.
After passing the second state examination in 1847, he worked at the judicial office in Wiesbaden until 1849. He then worked in the Nassau financial administration. In 1861, Olfenius went to Runkel to take over the local financial administration, the so-called Rezeptur. After this was dissolved by the Prussian state government in 1868, he was put in temporary charge of the Nassauische Landesbank in Wiesbaden. He was appointed director of the Landesbank in 1872. He held this office until his death.
In 1892, he retired from the Nassau Municipal Parliament, to which he had belonged since 1886 as a representative of the Wiesbaden municipal district and on whose finance committee he had been active. Olfenius was a recipient of the Royal Prussian Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class, which was awarded to people who had rendered outstanding (civilian or military) services.
