Lebenshilfe Wiesbaden e.V.
In 1961, Wiesbaden parents with disabled children joined together to form the "Lebenshilfe für geistig Behinderte Wiesbaden e.V." association, following the example of the Bundesvereinigung Lebenshilfe (Federal Association for the Mentally Handicapped) founded in 1958. The first project was an after-school care center, which was later expanded into the Tandem daycare center. In 1978, a residential home for the disabled was opened in Schierstein, followed by a facility on the Gräselberg in 1992 and the Erbenheim residential home in 1999. In 1996, the association changed its name to "Lebenshilfe Wiesbaden Betreuung und Förderung behinderter Menschen".
Since 2000, up to ten disabled people have been living on a former farm near Idstein and working in a country bakery run by Lebenshilfe Wiesbaden e.V.. In the "Franz" theater group, people with intellectual disabilities have been creating plays and collages since 2002. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the association was awarded the city plaque.
