Lifestyles movement (LAB) Wiesbaden

Founded in Kassel in 1958, the Lebensabendbewegung saw itself as Germany's first self-help organization for the elderly. The idea arrived in Wiesbaden as early as 1960 and received active support, e.g. from the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs, Lord Mayor Georg Buch, Head of Social Affairs Georg Feller and the President of the State Parliament Franz Fuchs, who became the first chairman.

In its founding year, 750 older people took up the offers of the Lebensabendbewegung Wiesbaden. They met the wishes of the older generation to be able to actively exchange ideas in a circle of like-minded people according to their own interests and abilities. In 1965, the Lebensabendbewegung Wiesbaden moved into the LAB meeting place in Karlstraße, which still exists today. Over the past 50 years, the Lebensabendbewegung Wiesbaden has been able to offer attractive activities to many thousands of people, adapting its socio-cultural activities to the changing wishes and needs of older people. Since 1993, the three letters LAB have stood for "actively enriching life". Around 8,500 people take advantage of the numerous open offers every year. In January 2010, the headquarters of LAB-Landesverband Hessen was moved from Kassel to Wiesbaden.
