Long, Friedrich
Lang, Friedrich
Architect
born: 14.10.1852 in Wiesbaden
died: 10.03.1906 in Wiesbaden
The son of a respected teacher, he trained in the "studio" of the renowned architects Euler and Koppen in Wiesbaden. He then worked as a construction manager. In 1874, despite his young age, Lang was already listed as a partner in this architectural firm. In 1878, Lang completed his first independent project, the residential building of the wine merchant Josef Pohl at Michelsberg 10. In 1877/78, Lang worked as a technical assistant at the city's master builder's office. In 1883, he became a citizen of Wiesbaden and founded his own architectural practice.
Lang created numerous important buildings, including the villas at Schöne Aussicht 39, Kapellenstraße 67 and 70 and Nerotal 73 and 75, as well as the Hotel Monopole/Metropole at Wilhelmstraße 8-10. From 1902, he was also commissioned with the continuation of the new building for the Hotel Rose, which was begun in 1896 and completed in 1906. He realized this project and the Pressehaus, which was built by 1909, together with his son-in-law, the government architect Albert Wolff. In the last years of his life, the architectural firm operated under both names as "Lang and Wolff".
Lang was a member of numerous clubs and associations in the city and had been a member of the city council since 1896. Five years after his death, a side street of Weinbergstraße was named after him.
