Lang, Anna (gen. Anny), née Gross (Groß)
Co-founder of the Workers' Welfare Association
Born: 11.05.1908 in Wiesbaden
died: 22.11.1971 in Wiesbaden
When Moritz Lang, Lang's husband, was entrusted with the reconstruction of the Workers' Welfare Association (AWO ) in Wiesbaden, which had been destroyed by the National Socialists, after the American invasion in the summer of 1945, Lang supported him. From October 1945, she was a member of the AWO's active women's committee, which she soon chaired. For the mass feeding of the population planned for the winter of 1945/46, she called together voluntary helpers to look after the food distribution and took care of emergency meals for children. Lang initiated clothing collections and set up AWO sewing rooms, where helpers produced items of clothing, among other things
Lang also helped set up the trips for Berlin children to Wiesbaden to the AWO children's home at Gustav-Adolf-Straße 18, which was established in 1956 as part of "Aktion Berlin". On her initiative, the AWO's recreation home at Unter den Eichen was established in 1968. In the last years of her life, she was particularly committed to the recreation of the elderly and the Mothers' Convalescence Association. The AWO convalescent home at Unter den Eichen, which was demolished in 2010, was given the name "Anny-Lang-Heim".
