Lade was the son of the Nassau-Idstein court clerk Christoph August Lade (1739-1815) and trained as a pharmacist. He completed his training as a pharmacist in Geneva and Bern; Lade obtained his doctorate (Dr. phil.). After gaining his license to practice pharmacy, he acquired the Wiesbaden court pharmacy. In 1811, Lade was appointed court pharmacist to the Duke of Nassau and three years later was appointed alderman of the city of Wiesbaden. His elevation to court pharmacist was followed by his appointment as official pharmacist in 1818 and the award of the title of medical assessor in 1824. He also made a name for himself as a talented botanist.
