Kneipp Association Wiesbaden e.V. (KV)
The Kneipp Association Wiesbaden e.V. was founded in 1897. The first association of this kind had been founded just a few years earlier in 1890 in Wörishofen. It is named after the Bavarian priest Sebastian Kneipp (1821-1897), one of the best-known advocates of a holistic, healthy lifestyle. The Kneipp Association also sees itself in the tradition of the treatment methods of Vincenz Prießnitz (1799-1851), the creator of hydrotherapy. The aim of the Kneipp Association is to promote health care and a natural way of life and healing, which it seeks to achieve through education and practical activities such as hardening, exercise and sport.
In 1940, the association had to give up its independence as it was incorporated into the National Socialist health organization and was re-established in 1949. In 1976, the Prießnitz and Kneipp associations merged to form the "Prießnitz-Kneipp-Verein Wiesbaden e.V.". In 2010, the name was changed to "Kneipp-Verein für naturgemäße Lebens- und Heilweise Wiesbaden e.V." (Kneipp-Verein Wiesbaden e.V. for short).
Today, the Kneipp Association is one of around 600 Kneipp associations in Germany that are part of the umbrella organization "Kneipp-Bund e.V.". In addition to lectures on health-promoting topics, it organizes gymnastics and yoga courses, hikes and social events as well as bus trips. It maintains a Kneipp water treading pool for everyone at Gehrner Bach. Another water treading pool was set up at Aukammbach in 2012 in cooperation with the city of Wiesbaden.
