Klug was inspector for the German vocational schools in Bohemia and Moravia from 1942-45 and a lecturer in Prague. After 1945, he moved to Wiesbaden, became a member of the CDU and was elected to the Wiesbaden city council for his party in the 1948 local elections.
Here he was primarily involved in school and cultural matters, but was also a member of the main committee and the committee of elders for a time. From July 1955 to October 1956, he held the office of City Councillor Chairman, then Deputy City Councillor Chairman until his death.
Klug was a member of the board of trustees of the Wiesbaden Werkkunstschule, deputy member of the Deputation for Art and Public Education and was also committed to the interests of displaced persons.
