On October 16, 1894, the day of the festive opening of the new Royal Court Theatre, Kaiser Wilhelm II unveiled the monument to Kaiser Wilhelm I during his first official visit to Wiesbaden. In March 1888, a monument committee had been founded in Wiesbaden with the aim of erecting a monument to the Kaiser on the Warmen Damm and raising the necessary sum of 64,000 RM. Based on a design by Johannes Schilling (1828-1910), who had also designed the Germania monument above Rüdesheim am Rhein, the Kaiser Wilhelm I monument was created in the Florentine studio of the sculptor Rafaelo Celai.

A wide base with sides measuring 3.20 m is followed by a cube-shaped pedestal of reddish granite, around 1.80 m high, on which the base of the statue with four garlands of fruit representing the four seasons is located. A cube of Carrara marble with an inscription plaque on the front sits on this base. The other three sides are decorated with reliefs alluding to the healing powers of the thermal water in Wiesbaden: Psyche on the right, Hygieia on the left and a spring nymph at the back, next to whom the spring water flows from a jug. A large "W", to which the spring nymph is holding out a laurel wreath, symbolizes the solidarity of the people of Wiesbaden towards their imperial bathing guest. Above the pedestal rises the 3.52 m high figure of the emperor, also carved from white marble, depicted as an approximately 70-year-old dignified elderly gentleman without a headdress in an interim uniform. His left hand rests next to his sword, while his right hand is raised forward in a gesture of homage and blessing. The inscription on the front reads: "Kaiser Wilhelm I. The grateful city of Wiesbaden."
