Young, Christian

Catholic clergyman

Born: 08.02.1920 in Erbach/Rheingau

Died: 24.02.1974 in Montabaur

After graduating from high school in Montabaur in 1938, Jung studied theology at the Theological-Philosophical University of St. Georgen in Frankfurt am Main. His studies were interrupted for eight years by military service and captivity as a prisoner of war, and in 1951 he was finally ordained a priest by Bishop Wilhelm Kempf.

After working briefly as rector of the Hadamar convent and as chaplain in Montabaur, he was chaplain in Wiesbaden from 1953-55. In 1956, the bishop appointed him diocesan youth chaplain for the male youth. He remained in this position until 1965, devoting himself to spiritual discussions with young people in many conversations. In 1966, he became parish priest at St. Leonhard in Frankfurt and at the same time director of the Frankfurt Caritas Association. After just two years, he was appointed parish priest of Wiesbaden, dean of the Wiesbaden-Mitte deanery and honorary canon, and in 1970 dean of the city. In 1972, Bishop Kempf appointed him to Limburg and made him his vicar general. In 1973, he was appointed cathedral chaplain. He died as a result of war-related illnesses and was buried in the canons' cemetery in Limburg.
