Hunter, Anton
Protestant pastor
Born: 26.04.1849 in Wiesbaden
died: 11.07.1928 in Bierstadt
Jäger studied Protestant theology in Halle, Berlin and Tübingen. In 1871/72 he attended the preacher's seminary in Herborn, came to Breckenheim as parish vicar in 1873 and to Erbach as parish administrator. In 1874 he became pastor in Dörnberg, in 1875 in Langenscheid, in 1879 in Diez and worked in Bierstadt from 1892 to 1926. Appointed "Geheimer Konsistorialrat" in 1909, he was provisional general superintendent for Nassau in 1919-25, succeeding Carl Ohly. Jäger, who belonged to the ecclesiastical right, thus maintained continuity between the last general superintendent of Nassau and the regional bishop August Kortheuer, who was elected on March 19, 1925 on the basis of the new Nassau church constitution of 1922 (confirmed by the state of Prussia in 1924). Like him, Jäger was also closely associated with the Inner Mission. From 1909, he headed the "Evangelical Association for Inner Mission" in Nassau, and then also the "Association of Rescue Homes". He was also the chief executive of the Sunday paper "Der barmherzige Samariter" (The Good Samaritan), which had been published since 1854 and belonged to the right-wing church party spectrum.
