Hußler, Friedrich (called Fritz)
Sculptor, ceramist
Born: January 9, 1915 in Lampertheim
died: January 2, 2000 in Wiesbaden
Friedrich, known as Fritz, Hußler completed an apprenticeship as a sculptor with the Wiesbaden ceramist and sculptor Adam Winter between 1929 and 1933. He then attended the State School of Arts and Crafts in Mainz between 1933 and 1934. From 1935, he worked as a journeyman sculptor in several companies.
Hußler joined the SA on 9 November 1933, but left the organization in 1937. He reached the rank of Rottenführer in the SA. From 1934 to 1935, Hußler initially did his Reich Labor Service and from 1936 to 1937 his military service. From 1937 to 1939, Hußler was a member of the German Labor Front and from 1942 to 1945 a member of the National Socialist People's Welfare.
Friedrich Hußler was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1939, but was still able to pass his master craftsman's examination in 1940. Hußler served in the artillery until 1945 and reached the non-commissioned officer rank of Oberwachtmeister. At the end of the Second World War, Hußler was taken prisoner of war, from which he was released in June 1945.
In the post-war period, Fritz Hußler initially worked as a freelance sculptor before taking up a position at the Mainz Cathedral Construction Office in 1957. Here he was involved in the reconstruction and restoration of the cathedral, which had been badly damaged during the Second World War.
Friedrich Hußler was involved on a voluntary basis in several clubs in his home town of Mainz-Kastel, particularly in gymnastics. From 1930 to 1933, he was the youth group leader of the Sudhessen gymnastics club. He was also chairman of the Kasteler Turngesellschaft (TG Kastel 1886/54) for over 20 years and was later appointed its honorary chairman. In 1978, Hußler became chairman of the Kasteler Vereinsring. At the beginning of the 1980s, he was appointed arbitrator by the Wiesbaden district court at the suggestion of the Mainz-Kastel local council.
Hußler received numerous honors for his voluntary work, including the Gauehrenbrief in 1958 and the pin of honor of the German Gymnastics Federation in 1976. In addition, the state capital of Wiesbaden awarded him the bronze citizens' medal in 1978. By resolution of the city council on April 1, 2003, a street in the Mainz-Kastel district was named after Fritz Hußler.
