Hollenders completed a commercial apprenticeship and then worked as a clerk. He served in the First World War from 1915-18 and came to Wiesbaden at the end of 1918, where he initially worked in Reserve Hospital IV and then as a manager from 1921-31.
Hollender's party political career began in 1928 when he joined the NSDAP. Two years later, he headed the Wiesbaden-Land NSDAP section and advanced to NSDAP district leader of the Rheingau in 1932/33. He was a member of the National Socialist Party parliamentary group in the Wiesbaden city parliament from 1929-33. Hollenders took part in the 70th and last session of the Nassau municipal parliament from March 12, 1933 until its dissolution in July of the same year. Together with his parliamentary group, he worked towards the closure of this parliament until the end of the self-governing body was decided by law on 17 July. He was involved in the dissolution of the state parliament through committees and institutions of the municipal state parliament (the electoral review committee, the executive state committee, the administrative board of the Nassauische Landesbank). Also in March 1933, Hollender was appointed honorary city councillor and head of the municipal transport company.
At the end of November 1933, he was appointed mayor of the city of Limburg an der Lahn by the party. He held this office until 1945. He also took on the post of Nazi district leader there (approx. 1934-37, also temporarily during the Second World War).
After the end of the war, Hollenders was imprisoned for some time in an internment camp in Karlsruhe, among other places.
