Hoffmann, Curt

Pharmacist
Born: April 12, 1862 in Dresden
died: March 27, 1947 in Wiesbaden

Curt Hoffmann's school and university years were shaped by the German Empire. After completing his studies, he worked as a food chemist on the board of the Baden-Baden State Research Institute. He was then employed as a court pharmacist by the Grand Duke of Baden until he took over the traditional Rosenapotheke pharmacy in Frankfurt am Main. During the First World War, Hoffmann was a major in the reserves. In 1920, Hoffmann moved to Wiesbaden. The Frankfurt Rosenapotheke remained in his possession, but was managed by another pharmacist.

In Wiesbaden, Hoffmann took up a position as a member of the administrative committee of the eye clinic and from 1922 became involved in the Verschönerungs-Verein Wiesbaden e. V. The aim of the association was to improve recreational opportunities for residents and visitors to Wiesbaden. To this end, the association developed and maintained forest paths and built shelters, fountains and benches.

In the summer of 1923, Curt Hoffmann was elected as the association's first chairman. Under his chairmanship, the association erected various monuments, such as the Goethe Stone in Frauenstein and the Goethe Watch on the Geisberg. Hoffmann provided his own funds for the construction of a refuge. The Curt Hoffmann hut in the city forest was erected and inaugurated in 1931.

Hoffmann remained the first chairman of the association until 1938, when it was incorporated into the Wiesbaden Kur- und Verkehrsverein under pressure from the National Socialists.

The circumstances of Hoffmann's life after 1945 are not documented. He continued to make a living from the income of his pharmacy, which was destroyed in a bombing raid during the Second World War.
