Heineck, Friedrich
Mineralogist
born: 28.03.1880 in Rodheim an der Bieber
died: 29.11.1979 in Budenheim am Rhein
Heineck studied natural sciences in Giessen and completed his doctorate at the Mineralogical Institute. In 1903, he joined the secondary school service in Hamburg.
From 1909 he lived in Wiesbaden, where he found a position at the Lyceum am Schlossplatz. From 1924-48 he was principal of the school. A member of the Nassau Society for Natural History since 1912, he was appointed to the board in 1915; in 1924 he succeeded the late state geologist August Leppla as chairman. This was associated with the position of honorary director of the natural history collection and honorary head of the mineralogical-geological department. He stepped down from this position in 1938, whereupon the association made him an honorary member. From 1939 to 1945, he continued to run the business as a substitute for Dr. Karl Fill, who had been called up for military service, and was responsible for safeguarding the collections in the closed museum.
After 1945, he was the driving force behind the reestablishment of the association and the reorganization of the natural history collection in the museum. In 1946, he took over the chairmanship again until 1960, as he was politically unaffected; he remained on the board as secretary until 1969.
He gave numerous lectures, led almost 100 excursions and published over 50 articles. He was active in the Wiesbaden section of the German Alpine Club and in the local district group of the German Forest Protection Association.
