Born: 20.05.1887 in Biebrich
Died: 23.09.1938 in Ehringshausen
Heiler studied classical philology and history in Heidelberg, Munich, Berlin and Marburg in 1905, obtained his doctorate in Marburg in 1910 and worked as a teacher in Saarbrücken, Hanau, Marburg, Wiesbaden, Hersfeld, Dillenburg, Limburg and Frankfurt am Main. In 1927, he moved to Wiesbaden and became a teacher at the humanistic grammar school. From 1933 he was secretary of the Verein für Nassauische Altertumskunde und Geschichtsforschung.
He devoted particular attention to the publication of the "Nassauische Lebensbilder". However, his goal of publishing a "Nassauisches Urkundenbuch", a "Nassauische Bibliographie" and a "Nassauisches Namenbuch" together with the Historical Commission for Nassau could not be realized.
His own publications on Hanau and Nassau regional and local history are numerous. His bibliography comprises 180 essays, brochures and books alone, including contributions on school and church history, the local history of Biebrich, Weilburg, Dillenburg and Herborn, family history and the history of the traveling people. He was particularly fond of the high school in Herborn. His main work was the commemorative publication on the 350th anniversary of the school.
