Haese, Otto

Haese, Otto

Trade unionist, politician, member of the Prussian parliament

Born: 30.09.1874 in Arnswald in the Neumark (today Choszczno, Poland)

Died: 24.12.1924 in Dachau concentration camp

Haese learned the bricklaying trade in Berlin and attended specialist courses in structural engineering and reinforced concrete construction. He worked as a skilled cement worker, ultimately as a foreman, until 1903. He was already involved in the bricklayers' union in Berlin. From 1903, he worked as an employee, initially for the bricklayers' association, and from 1911 for the building workers' association. In 1913, he moved to Wiesbaden, where he was chairman of the branch of the Central Association of Bricklayers in Germany, which later became the German Building Trades Association, until 1933. During the First World War, he became chairman of the trade union cartel in Wiesbaden.

He was a Social Democrat and was also involved in city politics. He was a member of the city council from 1918-20 and was an honorary city councillor from 1920-24. He was also a member of the Prussian state parliament and was elected to the Nassau municipal parliament in 1933; however, this was dissolved by the National Socialists in July of the same year. After the assassination attempt of July 20, 1944, he was arrested as part of the "Gewitter" (also known as "Gitter") campaign and deported to Dachau concentration camp. A street in Klarenthal is named after him.
