Teacher
born: 09.03.1930 in Bad Bibra
died: 20.09.1970 in Wiesbaden
After graduating from secondary school in Sömmerda (Thuringia) in 1946, Großmann completed an administrative apprenticeship in Weißensee until 1948. He then trained as a teacher and worked as a trainee teacher and teacher at technical colleges and seminaries in Gera and the surrounding area.
In 1955, he left the GDR and moved to Hesse. He attended a three-semester course at the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg in order to be able to work as a teacher in Hesse. From 1956-62 he was a teacher in Frankfurt am Main. In 1963, he moved to Winkel in the Rheingau. There he worked as a primary school teacher and became a recognized expert on the flora of the Rheingau and Wiesbaden. He willingly passed on his knowledge to interested people and tried to expand his knowledge on numerous excursions.
He had been a member of the Senckenbergische Naturforschende Gesellschaft (SNG) and the Nassauischer Verein für Naturkunde since 1966 and was a member of the scientific advisory board until his death.
Drawing on the herbaria of Karl Wilhelm Fuckel and Anton Vigener and using older and more recent literature, he drafted the manuscript of his "Flora vom Rheingau", which was published posthumously in 1976 as Senckenberg Book 55 after being revised. His complete herbarium came into the possession of the Senckenbergische Naturforschende Gesellschaft.
