Gottlob Kurz GmbH
In 1893, Gottlob Kurz (1861-1927), a manufacturer from Swabia, founded a medical supply store in what is now Wiesbaden's Bahnhofstraße. After the company moved to the conveniently located Wiesbaden-Igstadt site in 1902, it developed into an important specialist store for midwifery supplies.
The "Wiesbadener Hebammenkoffer" (Wiesbaden midwife's case) was produced in-house with corresponding, standardized equipment. Today, fashionably adapted "midwife bags" with individual fittings are sold. The practical, handy "KURZ baby scales" were then, as now, part of the extensive medical sales program of the Wiesbaden midwife supplier. Over the years, the company's sales range was expanded to include instruments, equipment and articles for animal care. In addition, from the 1920s to the 1970s, the family company's sales program was supplemented by items for general municipal needs, especially items for local fire protection. Hydrants, hoses and hose reels, uniforms, fire extinguishers, bucket sprayers and special protective clothing were supplied to the fire departments in the local Nassau area in particular. Some products were also manufactured in the company's own workshops at this time.
The daughter of the former owner Martin Kurz (1936-2009), Bettina Kurz-Mann, is now (as of 2016) the fourth generation to run the "specialist store for midwives, nursing, doctors and medical supplies". Not only are the popular baby bracelets "KURZ-Original-Signature for marking newborns" used today in many European clinics and maternity wards, but Gottlob Kurz products are also still in demand for home births. This is also reflected in the lively interest shown in the company's exhibition stand at European trade fairs and congresses.
