Glücklich, Johann Christian

Writer, editor

Born: 30.07.1839 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe

died: 01.07.1920 in Wiesbaden

After an apprenticeship as a shoemaker, Glücklich went on a journey and spent long periods in Karlsruhe, Geneva, Lyon and Paris. When he returned to Germany, he learned the profession of croupier in Wiesbaden. He practiced this profession from 1858 until the casino in Wiesbaden closed in 1872, after which he became an insurance agent and real estate broker.

In 1897, he published Philipp Keim's poems under the title "Philipp und Liesbeth Keim aus Diedenbergen - ein Nassauisches Dichter- und Bardenpaar; nebst einer Sammlung Philipp Keim'scher Original-Lieder und Dichtungen". Keim, who had gone blind at the age of 17, traveled the country with his wife and an organ grinder and brought the news of the day to the people in rhymed song.

Glücklich was a member of the German Writers' Association, publisher of "14 Jahre an der Spielbank, Erinnerungen eines Croupiers", author of "Die Geheimnisse des grünen Tisches", the drama "Der Generaldirektor", the poetry collection "Lose Blätter" and much more. He founded the "Wiesbadener Brühbrunne-, Kreppel-, Kaffeemiehl- und Brödcherzeitung", published since 1872, and was the founder of the carnival association Narhalla in 1893 and its president for many years.

Glücklich is buried in the North Cemetery.
