Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation Wiesbaden e.V. (GCJZ)

The Gesellschaft für Christlich-Jüdische Zusammenarbeit Wiesbaden e.V. was the second society in Germany to be founded on November 17, 1948. Like the 84 other societies in the Federal Republic of Germany that have been united in the German Coordination Council (DKR) since 1951, it faces up to the enduring responsibility in the face of the destruction of Jewish life carried out by Germans and in the German name.

The Societies for Christian-Jewish Cooperation were founded in Germany after 1945 as part of the "Reeducation Program" of the American occupying power. Similar to the "National Conference of Christians and Jews" in the USA, they were intended to influence social development in the sense of religious tolerance and a humane basic orientation. Christian-Jewish dialog increasingly became the focus of attention. To ensure this, the board consists of one Jewish, one Catholic and one Protestant representative as equal chairpersons.

The Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation is committed to understanding and cooperation between Christians and Jews with mutual respect for all differences, for the remembrance of the origins and connections between Judaism and Christianity and for the development of free, unhindered Jewish life in Germany. The Christian-Jewish dialog, the fight against anti-Semitism and the remembrance of the Holocaust form the cornerstones of the thematic work.

One focus is the nationwide "Week of Fraternity", which is held in March each year to draw attention to the aims and work of the Society and the theme of the year. The Gesellschaft für Christlich-Jüdische Zusammenarbeit Wiesbaden has been organizing such a week since 1952. It is a registered association recognized as a non-profit organization.
