George Maciunas Prize

6,000 George Maciunas Prize was established and awarded for the first time. In honour of George Maciunas, who was only 47 years old when he organized the first "FLUXUS*International Festival of Newest Music" in Wiesbaden in 1962, the prize has been awarded every 47 months since then. Until now, the sole juror has been the exhibition organizer and former director of the Fridericianum in Kassel, René Block, who not only exhibited and promoted FLUXUS-related artists in his former Berlin gallery, but also curated several FLUXUS exhibitions in Wiesbaden. Independently of this, René Block has also awarded a sponsorship prize of €3,000 twice to date.

Previous Maciunas Prize winners: 1992 Maria Eichhorn, 1996 Romuald Hazoumé (Benin), 2000 Mona Hatoum (Lebanon), 2004 Dan Perjovschi (Romania), 2008 artist group Superflex (Björnstjerne R. Christiansen), Rasmus Nielsen, Jakob Felger (Denmark), 2012 Sakir Gökcebag (Turkey). Previous winners: 2004 Nevin Aldag (Turkey), 2008 Driton Hajredini (Kosovo), 2012 Annika Kahrs (Hamburg).
