Genth, Karl Wilhelm

Lawyer, Poet

Born: 06.03.1803 in Kirburg near Hachenburg

died: 16.07.1844 in Soden am Taunus

Genth, the son of a forester, attended the Pädagogium in Herborn and, from 1816, the Gymnasium Philippinum in Weilburg an der Lahn. He studied law in Bonn and Heidelberg from 1821-24. From 1825 onwards, he worked as a court clerk (candidate for judicial and administrative service) in Montabaur, Höchst am Main, Wallmerod and St. Goarshausen on the Rhine. From 1834 he also worked as a clerk at the criminal court in Wiesbaden; in 1836 he was appointed assessor and in 1841 judge. He was friends with the poet August Graf von Platen, who dedicated an ode to him. Many of Genth's poems deal with his native Nassau. Genth died unexpectedly during a business trip. An anthology published by Carl Ferdinand Dräxler-Manfred (1806-1879) under the title "Poems" appeared in 1845.
