Fresenius, Remigius Ludwig
Chemist
Born: 02.02.1886 in Wiesbaden
died: 04.07.1936 in Wiesbaden
Fresenius studied at his father's laboratory(Chemisches Laboratorium Fresenius). In 1906, he began studying chemistry in Munich. After his military service, Fresenius went to the University of Berlin in 1909, where he received his doctorate in 1911. Drafted as a reserve officer at the beginning of the First World War, he was shot in the lung and transferred to a field hospital with serious injuries. In 1920, he joined the Wiesbaden laboratory as co-owner, where he took over the management of the testing laboratory, among other things.
Fresenius was also involved in numerous professional associations, for example he was deputy chairman of the Association of Independent Public Chemists and active in local politics. As a representative of the German National People's Party, he was a member of the city council in Wiesbaden for 15 years from 1919.
His opposition to the occupation of the Rhineland after the First World War led to his imprisonment in 1923, first in Wiesbaden and then in Mainz. This experience led to his political radicalization, which was reflected in his membership of the Stahlhelm and the SA group in Wiesbaden.
