Protestant Deanery Wiesbaden
The Protestant deanery of Wiesbaden covers the area of the state capital and extends to Eltville in the west and Hochheim in the east. It brings together 42 parishes with a total of 80,000 parishioners.
As part of the Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau, the deanery aims to convey Christian values and to help shape public life in accordance with these values. In doing so, it is committed to Dietrich Bonhoeffer's concern to be a "church for others" by promoting the contemporary proclamation of the biblical message and bringing the resulting consequences into society. The eight church musicians of the deanery are involved in the proclamation of the message and develop a rich musical offering at their respective locations.
It has its own specialist departments for the areas of education, social responsibility, ecumenism and public relations. The parish offices for city church work deal in a special way with questions of urban life and the possibilities of bringing the Christian message into the urban world. Specialist pastors are available for people in special life situations. The City Youth Parish Office and the Youth Church are institutions of the Protestant Deanery. The parishes that make up the Protestant Deanery run 39 day care centers.
Like every parish, the Protestant Deanery is led by volunteers and full-time employees who are appointed by election. The synod, i.e. the assembly of parish representatives and pastors, is responsible for making decisions on the direction of the church in the region. It is currently chaired by President Gabriele Schmidt. The members of the synod elect the deanery synodal board. This board, currently (2016) chaired by Eberhard Busch, manages the day-to-day business. The office of dean is currently held by Pastor Dr. Martin Mencke. He represents the Protestant Deanery in public and is the superior of the pastors and all employees of the Deanery. His deputies are Pastor Gerhard Müller (Lukasgemeinde) and Pastor Dr. Sunny Panitz (Ringkirchengemeinde).
