Esser, Hermin
Singer (tenor)
born: 01.04.1928 in Rheydt
died: 17.04.2009 in Wiesbaden
Trained at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf, he followed a call to the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden in 1961. He first appeared at the Bayreuth Festival in 1966 and soon became one of the most important Wagner interpreters of his time, embarking on an international career (under conductors such as Karl Böhm and Herbert von Karajan).
After starting out as a lyric and youthful dramatic tenor, he later developed into a heldentenor with a broad repertoire; he was also successful as a concert singer. In 1998, he once again gave an evening of songs and opera excerpts in Wiesbaden.
