Dittmar, Rolf

Dittmar, Rolf

Lawyer, notary, art collector

Born: 24.03.1924 in Wiesbaden

died: 10.09.1999 in Wiesbaden

After studying law, Dittmar joined his father's law firm as a lawyer and notary. For many years, he represented HARLEKIN Geschenke GmbH Wiesbaden in various lawsuits.

He became known for his intelligent pleadings, which were peppered with wit and irony. His responses to BMW's lawsuit against the "Bumms Mal Wieder" sticker distributed by HARLEKIN and Lufthansa's lawsuit against the "Lusthansa" sticker, which added a second sticker to Lufthansa's flying crane, caused a nationwide echo in the media.

Less well known was the fact that Dittmann was also quietly active as an art collector and patron of young artists. He collected first editions of expressionist literature and Dada as well as illustrated books and magazines and then discovered object-books and book-objects designed by artists.

At documenta 6 in Kassel in 1977, the artists' books section was made up of works from his collection. An exhibition at the Kasseler Kunstverein in 2000 was dedicated to his extensive collection of artists' journals.
