died: 12.03.1887 in Biebrich
Bunsen, who came from a Prussian noble family, studied law in Berlin and joined the Prussian legation in London in 1848. He was attached to the legation in Constantinople in 1850 and transferred to Turin in 1853.
He was interested in the cultural and political development of Italy. He developed a close relationship with Camillo Cavour, the founder of Italian unification and representative of the Risorgimento. With the transfer of the then capital from Turin to Florence, Bunsen was temporarily entrusted with the official duties of the legation. He was transferred to The Hague in 1869 and retired in 1873, which he spent in Biebrich.
He was buried in the Biebrich cemetery. His tomb is reminiscent of an Italian coffin and is decorated with a Waldensian cross. Bunsen was once an honorary church councillor for the Waldensian congregations in Florence. If you calculate the weight of the monument in pounds, you get the year of Bunsen's death.
