Böhm, Karl

Böhm, Karl

Town elder

Born: 07.11.1878 in Aalen/Württemberg

died: 30.11.1963 in Wiesbaden

Böhm moved to Wiesbaden in 1904 and took over the Julius Mollath porcelain shop, into which he had married, in 1906.

Severely wounded in the First World War, he returned to his replacement battalion in Wiesbaden in May 1916 and soon became politically active. In the 1930s, he was district chairman of the Center Party in Wiesbaden until its dissolution, became a member of the Wiesbaden municipal council in 1933 and was removed from office two years later because he refused to join the NSDAP. He was also involved in the Wiesbaden Catholic Commercial Association, of which he was the first chairman from 1918-36.

After 1945, Böhm was initially a member of the reconstruction committee. He was then one of the founding members of the Wiesbaden CDU, which he chaired until 1953. The founding of the Wiesbaden-Rheingau-Untertaunus retail association, of which he was chairman until his death, was also on his initiative.

In recognition of his services to the reconstruction of the local economy, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class. From 1946-56, he was a member of the town council; when he retired, he was awarded the honorary title of "Town Elder". A street was named after him in 1964. His grave in the North Cemetery is one of the city's honorary graves.
