Arntz, Wilhelm

Arnzt, Wilhelm

Merchant, local politician

Born: 11.12.1861 in Solingen

Died: 15.08.1942 in Munich

Arnzt was one of the wealthy citizens of Wiesbaden who were able to live off the income from their assets and were therefore referred to as rentiers or privateers. As a member of a Solingen merchant family, Arnzt came to Wiesbaden in 1893 at the age of 32, where he settled with his family.

Here, the businessman, who was committed to the community and social issues, initially worked as a volunteer on the board of directors of the care home for the elderly, of which he later became treasurer and chairman. From 1899-1903, Arnzt was a member of the city council and subsequently served as an unpaid city councillor until 1928, including as head of the poor administration department.

He was also a member of numerous municipal committees, such as the deputation for the light and water works and the museum deputation. In 1926, he became managing director of the incorporation commission for the new Wiesbaden suburbs. Between 1905 and 1918, Arnzt was a member of the Nassau municipal parliament as a representative of the Wiesbaden city district. He later belonged to the German People's Party (DVP). Arnzt was appointed "town elder" in 1927.

In 1931, at the age of 70, he moved to Munich, where he spent the rest of his life.
