Hesse Chamber of Architects and Town Planners (AKH)
The Chamber of Architects and Town Planners of Hesse (AKH) was founded in 1969 and has been based in the "House of Architects" at Bierstadter Straße 2 since 2007. All Hessian architects and town planners are organized in the AKH, which has around 11,000 members.
The Chamber of Architects and Town Planners is both a consumer protection organization and a professional association and actively supports legislators, authorities and courts with expert opinions, statements and proposals in the regulation of relevant issues. It is particularly committed to building culture in Hesse: Through events such as the annual "Day of Architecture" or the "Exemplary Buildings in the State of Hesse" award, the Chamber helps to create an awareness of good architecture. It also promotes planning competitions and monitors their fair implementation.
To protect consumers, the AKH ensures that only people with qualified training, professional experience and controlled further training are allowed to use the title "architect", "interior architect", "landscape architect" or "urban planner". It maintains the professional registers (list of architects, list of urban planners, list of professional associations), issues the "major building permit" and promotes the professional development of its members with its own academy.
The tasks of the Chamber of Architects and Town Planners also include settling disputes between members and third parties and appointing and swearing in experts.
