Adam's greatest sporting success was winning the bronze medal with the German men's floret team (together with Erwin Casmir, Julius Eisenecker, August Heim, Siegfried Lerdon and Stefan Rosenbauer) at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. In 1948, Adam left Wiesbaden and moved to Völklingen. He was president of the German Fencing Federation (DFeB) from 1957-70. He was subsequently appointed honorary president of the association. From 1952-74, he was also president of the Saar Fencing Federation, which he co-founded in 1948.
