Today's Kunsthaus at Schulberg 10 has an eventful history: built by architect Philipp Hoffmann as a school building in the mid-19th century, it later served as an arts and crafts school and then as the headquarters of the Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden. Since 1989, the building has been owned by the city as an art gallery. It serves as an exhibition and event venue, as a studio house for local artists, scholarship holders from all over the world and as a workshop for children.

This diverse use is the reason for the rich offer. Works by regional and international contemporary artists, thematic and monographic exhibitions and Wiesbaden collections are shown, and events are held that range between performance, installation, sound art and contemporary music.
Following the demolition of an extension from the 1950s, space was created for a new building, which opened in 2011 and is an architecturally independent cube that discreetly flanks the old building.

In this new building, a spacious exhibition room with over 300 m2 of space, a light-filled foyer and a transition to the so-called Aula in the old building have been created on the ground floor; the Artothek has now found its new home in the basement, along with the necessary workshops and storage rooms. In its multifunctionality, the Kunsthaus is a lively place that concentrates the most diverse facets of artistic creation, a stimulating place for creativity and a meeting place for all those interested in art.
