Reopening of the lost and found office in a central city center location
While the tradesmen were carrying out the final finishing work, the lost and found office moved to its new location at Ellenbogengasse 3-7 at the end of January. The three-person lost and found office team can now be found on the first floor of the building, where the citizens' office is also located on the second floor.
"We are delighted that we have been able to successfully complete another important element of our location projects in the public order office with this move. The long-held wish to locate the lost and found office in a central downtown location has now become a reality," explains Maral Koohestanian, the head of the public order department.
Around 4,000 lost and found items are registered in the lost and found office every year. They are recorded with all relevant data and stored for up to six months if the search for the owner is not successful before then.
Citizens can submit a lost property report online at any time via the online lost property service at portal.wiesbaden.de to facilitate the allocation of found items. Identity documents, wallets, keys, cell phones and bicycles are particularly frequently handed in. Items that are not collected after six months are recycled or auctioned.
With around 1,600 found items, the lost and found office moved into its new 276 square meter premises in January.
The new premises are functionally designed: A reception area with a counter, accessible via Ellenbogengasse, is separated from the rest of the lost and found office by a room divider. Behind it are the employees' work areas, a small pantry kitchen and a smaller storage area. The upper storage area, which houses the majority of the lost property - including bicycles - can be reached via a staircase or elevator. There is a separate entrance to the passageway, opposite the entrance to the citizens' office, for collective deliveries by the police. To protect the lost property, the entire lost and found office is secured with an alarm system.
Final work, such as the barrier-free design of the main entrance door and the final visual design of the window areas, will be completed in March.
The move will bring an end to years of being an island solution in the Europaviertel for the employees. They are now housed in a central location together with the registry office and the public order office - for even better accessibility and efficient collaboration.
"With the new lost and found office, we are creating a modern service that optimally combines digital and personal services. Whether online or on site - citizens can now get their lost items back even more quickly and easily," concludes Koohestanian.
