Apartment fire in Mainz-Kastel

This afternoon, there was a fire in an apartment on the second floor of an apartment building in Mainz-Kastel. The Wiesbaden fire department and the volunteer fire departments from Kastel and Kostheim were quickly on the scene and immediately started fighting the fire.

A team immediately entered the apartment under respiratory protection. Thanks to the rapid deployment of the fire department, the fire was quickly brought under control, preventing it from spreading further into the building. At the same time, another team wearing breathing protection checked all the other apartments in the residential building to ensure that there was no further danger to the residents.

Extensive ventilation measures were then carried out to remove the remaining smoke from the building.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. Tragically, however, two cats could only be recovered dead from the apartment on fire.

The apartment itself suffered considerable damage from the fire and is currently uninhabitable. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear and is being investigated by the relevant authorities. Initial estimates put the damage to property at around 25,000 euros. (nw)
