Healthcare master plan

The Healthcare Masterplan is a strategic development concept and builds on the city-wide objectives of the Integrated Urban Development Concept Wiesbaden 2030+.

The picture shows an exterior view of St. Josefs-Hospital Wiesbaden. In the foreground is a round, modern building with the inscription "medicum - Facharztzentrum Wiesbaden". The building has a metallic silver façade with green walls. In the background you can see the main building of the hospital, a multi-storey building with a wood and glass façade. Next to it is another building surrounded by scaffolding, indicating construction or renovation work. On the left side of the picture is a traffic or information sign with a red hospital symbol pointing the way to a pedestrian crossing and a parking lot. The surrounding area is lined with trees and green bushes, and the sky is blue with few clouds.

In particular, theaim is to secure and sustainably develop healthcare provision, as well as to bring together and coordinate those involved in the healthcare sector in Wiesbaden. The master plan serves as a basis for orientation on the topic of the healthcare industry as part of the current redrafting of the land use plan for the state capital of Wiesbaden.

The starting point for developing the content was an analysis of the general trends and the local situation of Wiesbaden as a healthcare location. To this end, the economic importance of the sector was recorded and compared with Germany and Hesse. At the planning level, Wiesbaden's locational qualities were analyzed in the context of the region.

The opportunities and challenges identified in the status quo analysis form the basis for the mission statement. The mission statement shows a vision for the future of the healthcare industry in Wiesbaden and serves as an orientation for future developments, also against the background of constantly changing framework conditions.

The implementation of the mission statement requires a series of strategies and measures that can be assigned to nine fields of action. The measures listed are exemplary, i.e. not to be understood as an exhaustive list. The overarching strategies provide general directions for development and are also a corrective and impetus for future measures that are not yet known. The proposed measures require separate resolutions.

The graphic shows a honeycomb structure with nine numbered hexagons representing different fields of action. Each hexagon contains a brief description of the respective field of action. The colors vary between red, blue, yellow and grey. Contents of the honeycombs: Medical care - positioning for the future (red honeycomb) Other sub-areas - expanding as a special feature (blue honeycomb) Promoting iGW (dark blue honeycomb) Development areas - securing (yellow honeycomb) Attractive conditions for skilled workers - creating (yellow honeycomb) Transport connections - optimizing (yellow honeycomb) Image and perception - improving (grey honeycomb) Networks + cooperation - bundling (grey honeycomb) Digitalization and sustainability - securing (grey honeycomb) The honeycombs are connected to each other and form a visual structure for the fields of action.

In addition to the thematically structured strategies and measures, the perspective development approaches for the key areas, i.e. the spatial focal points of the healthcare industry in Wiesbaden, are also relevant for the implementation of the mission statement. In addition to the clinics with a supply function, future prospects for several commercial areas, university locations and central points of attraction, for example, are spatially located and translated into urban development concept ideas.

In February 2024, the City Council adopted the Healthcare Masterplan as an urban development concept in accordance with the German Building Code.
