Support program: Blooming landscapes and habitats in Wiesbaden

The Blühende Landschaften und Lebensräume (Blooming Landscapes and Habitats) funding program in Wiesbaden supports various species conservation measures. These include the creation of small biotopes in private gardens.

Biotope and species protection are a high priority in the state capital of Wiesbaden. The city has been a member of the "Communities for Biodiversity" association since 2018 and is actively committed to preserving biodiversity. To this end, targeted measures to protect biodiversity in Wiesbaden are promoted.

Who can take part?

  • Individuals or
  • associations (federations, clubs, initiatives, institutions and similar).

What is supported?

Measures that improve the living conditions for wild animals and plants and thus contribute to the preservation of biodiversity in urban indoor and outdoor areas.

Biotope protection measures in the open landscape (outdoor area)

For example

  • the creation and restoration of abandoned orchards and rows of trees (scrub clearance, tree care and supplementary planting)
  • Planting trees, hedges and copses
  • Extensification, restoration, new planting and grazing, including five years of development maintenance of species-rich permanent grassland
  • the creation and maintenance of annual and perennial species-rich linear biotopes such as field margins, conservation strips and flower strips as well as five years of development maintenance
  • the provision of native seed for the creation of the above-mentioned areas.

Species protection measures throughout the city

  • The construction and maintenance of artificial breeding sites and hibernation areas for native species (birds, insects, dormice and other animals)
  • The creation of near-natural small biotopes in gardens (these include waterholes, wildflower meadows and woodland plantings that serve as breeding and nesting sites and food sources for native animal species).
  • Monitoring measures and public relations work

How do I apply for funding?

  1. You apply for municipal funding using the application form linked below.
    Prerequisite: The project must comply with the municipal funding guidelines.
  2. You implement the project and thus create new habitats for animals and plants.
  3. You document: You provide pictures and observations during and after implementation.
