Strategic heat planning in Wiesbaden
Wiesbaden wants to establish a climate-friendly heat supply. The strategic heat planning shows how this can be achieved.
A good plan for the heating transition
Good heat planning is important for the success of the heat transition in the city. Wiesbaden launched strategic heat planning in 2021, even before the introduction of the municipal obligation under the Hessian Energy Act. Together with network operators and ESWE Versorgungs AG, energy consumption in the heating sector was determined. The results were recorded in a heat register and serve as the basis for planning.
Suitability and perspective areas
Heat planning defines various areas. These areas are assessed according to their potential for certain technologies. In some areas, different technologies can be combined.
From strategic to municipal heat planning
Wiesbaden is now implementing the legal requirement for municipal heat planning. Sector coupling is being considered with ESWE Versorgungs AG. This involves linking areas such as energy, transport and buildings in order to make better use of renewable energy and reduce CO₂ emissions. The aim is to make infrastructures more efficient and exploit synergy effects.
What happens next?
From 2024, the local councils will be successively informed about the results of the strategic heat planning. The implementation of municipal heat planning started in fall 2024.
