Dealing with bulky waste
What can you do to prevent bulky waste from sitting on the side of the road for days on end and being scattered on the sidewalk? The Environmental Agency advises on the correct handling of old furniture and the like.
Bulky waste from private households is collected free of charge up to four times a year by the waste disposal companies of the state capital Wiesbaden (ELW). To ensure that the collection of bulky waste runs smoothly and that the cityscape is impaired as little as possible by the accumulation of bulky waste, the rules laid down for this purpose must also be observed.
Bulky waste to be collected must be registered with the ELW Service Center in advance and may only be put out on the evening before the allocated collection date. The bulky waste must be positioned in such a way that it can be easily removed but does not obstruct or endanger traffic. Customers are made aware of this when the ELW Service Center makes the appointment.
Unfortunately, not everyone who registers bulky waste adheres to these guidelines. Bulky waste is often put out several days before the actual collection date. This means that the waste detracts from the cityscape for longer than necessary and is repeatedly searched by passers-by for recyclable materials and spread over a large area.
The premature and traffic-endangering placement of bulky waste constitutes an administrative offense within the meaning of the recycling management statutes of the state capital of Wiesbaden. The same applies to the unauthorized searching or removal of bulky waste intended for collection. The Environmental Agency, which is generally responsible for monitoring and penalizing illegal waste dumping within the city limits, imposes fines for illegal handling of bulky waste. Violations are punished with a fine of between 50 and 500 euros.
